About Rizq Rasan

Good food shouldn't go to waste while people go hungry

We're a student team in Islamabad building a fair, safe way for food businesses to pass on good surplus to the organisations that feed people. Rizq Rasan launches on 22 March 2027.

Our story

Why we started

Rizq Rasan began as a student project in Islamabad. We kept seeing the same thing: a tandoor or bakery closing for the night with good food left on the counter, while NGOs, shelters and community kitchens across the city worked hard to feed people with too little.

The food wasn't the problem. Time, trust and coordination were. Surplus appears late in the evening and stays safe for only a few hours. There's no quick way for a kitchen to find it, no easy way for a business to know who is collecting, and no Good Samaritan law in Pakistan to protect a business that passes food on.

So we're building a marketplace with clear rules rather than a noticeboard. Food is sold at a small recovery price, never more than half of retail, which covers the business's packing and handover time and gives it a reason to list again tomorrow. And because selling food means food laws apply in full, everyone is verified and every kind of food has a time limit.

Before we build the platform, we'll test the idea the simple way: real food, real NGOs and a WhatsApp group, in November 2026.

What we're building

What we're building

Rizq Rasan will be a platform built for the phone. A verified restaurant, bakery or grocer lists good surplus food with a photo, a pickup window and a safe-until time, at a recovery price of at least Rs 1,000 and no more than half of retail. A verified NGO nearby claims it and pays when it claims, by Raast or by JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet through PayFast. Its collector checks the food and gives a 4-digit pickup code at the counter. Rizq Rasan holds the payment and pays the business 95% of the price, before any tax the law requires us to withhold, every Monday and Thursday. We keep 5% and pay the payment gateway's fees out of it.

What we stand for

Our values

When we have to choose how something works, these decide it.

Dignity

The people who eat this food deserve respect. Food claimed through Rizq Rasan is served or given free, never resold, and our Community Guidelines protect the dignity of the people it reaches.

Safety first

Every business and NGO is checked before it can list or claim. Each kind of food has a time limit, we start with low-risk food, and cooked food waits until the pilot has run 4 weeks with no food incident.

Fair to both sides

Businesses keep 95% of the price, before any tax the law requires us to withhold, and are paid even if an NGO doesn't turn up. NGOs pay no more than half of retail and get a full refund if the food isn't there or isn't safe. Every rule is written down in advance, and every strike can be appealed to a person.

Honest numbers

Every figure we publish has a source or a method. Impact totals will count completed pickups only, and we won't publish any until there is real data from the pilot. We show where every rupee of a sale goes.

The road to launch

The road to launch

Each stage has a test it must pass before the next one starts. If a test isn't passed, we fix what failed before moving on, even if a date has to move.

The longest wait isn't code. A payment gateway approves a business only once its public website and company papers exist, which is why this website comes first.

  1. Groundwork

We register the company, open its bank accounts and brief a lawyer and a tax adviser. We sign 5 to 8 NGOs first, then 10 to 15 food businesses close to them, and ask 10 businesses to weigh what's left at closing for two weeks. We move on once the company is registered, partners have signed, and at least 6 businesses show 3 or more lots of surplus a week.

    19 October to 15 November 2026
  2. A test over WhatsApp

No software yet. We post 10 to 20 real lots of surplus at recovery prices in a WhatsApp group with 8 NGOs, and each NGO pays the business directly by Raast. It answers the biggest question first: will NGOs pay? We move on if at least 5 of the 8 pay at least twice.

    2 to 15 November 2026
  3. This website and our policies

The public website, with forms to register your interest, and all 16 policies, reviewed by a lawyer. Then our application goes to the payment gateway, PayFast.

    November to December 2026
  4. Building the platform

Sign-up and verification, listings with time limits, claims with payment deadlines, pickup codes and the tools our team uses, then payments, refunds and payouts. We move on when the whole process from listing to pickup works on a cheap Android phone, and a payment, a refund and a payout match our records to the paisa.

    November 2026 to February 2027
  5. The pilot

Real food with our signed partners in the two starting zones, low-risk food only. NGOs pay businesses directly, no commission is charged, and our founders are on call every evening.

    January 2027, by invitation
  6. Cooked food

Rice, curries and other cooked food open only if the pilot's first 4 weeks pass with no food incident.

    From 1 February 2027
  7. A Ramadan month with live payments

NGOs start paying through PayFast when they claim, and Rizq Rasan pays businesses every Monday and Thursday, just as iftar surplus peaks. We move on when payments, pickups and refunds meet our targets, with no upheld food-safety complaint.

About 8 February to 9 March 2027, depending on the moon sighting
  8. Public launch

Sign-ups open across Islamabad, and those who registered their interest are invited first. We publish our first impact numbers and start working with more partners.

The company

Who runs Rizq Rasan

Rizq Rasan is being set up as Rizq Rasan (Pvt) Ltd, a private limited company. Registration with SECP in progress.

Real payments start only once the company is incorporated and the payment gateway has approved us. Until then, in the pilot, NGOs pay businesses directly and we never handle the money.
